Wireless Sensor
What is it?
A wireless sensor is an IoT device that collects sensory information and detects changes in specified environments.
It is designed to measure certain parameters of its surroundings and produce outputs, e.g., electric signals for data to be subsequently processed. The parameters in question include air temperature, lighting levels, movements, and liquid leakages.
How does it work?
In terms of classification, wireless sensors divide into passive and active ones. Passive sensors are self-powered devices that react to inputs from their locale. They do not actively probe their environment and thus do not require external power.
On the contrary, active sensors directly monitor their surroundings and rely upon separate energy sources. Groups of scattered wireless sensors are called wireless sensor networks.
