Smart Waste Management
What is it?
Smart waste management is a system that uses advanced technologies to optimize the collection, transportation, and disposal of waste. It aims to reduce the environmental impact, operational costs, and health risks associated with waste management. Some of the technologies used in smart waste management are sensors, GPS, RFID, IoT, big data analytics, and cloud computing.
How does it work?
Smart waste management usually works by using sensors to monitor the fill level, weight, and temperature of waste bins. The sensors, as a rule, communicate with a central network server or a cloud platform via wired or wireless networks. The data collected by the sensors can be analyzed in the application server to optimize the routes and schedules of waste collection vehicles, as well as to identify the types and quantities of waste generated in different areas.
TEKTELIC offers a variety of LoRaWAN® gateways, which can easily connect from hundreds to thousands of sensors. Besides, our gateways are all carrier-grade, meaning that they keep functioning in extreme weather conditions, and have lighting protection, and out-of-band rejection. Smart waste management can also use RFID tags to track the movement and destination of waste containers. This can help to prevent illegal dumping, theft, or misplacement of waste. RFID tags can also provide information about the source and composition of waste, which can facilitate recycling and sorting processes. Additionally, smart waste management can use IoT devices to control the operation of waste compactors, shredders, or incinerators remotely and efficiently.
